Heekyoung Cho is Associate Professor in the Department of Asian Languages and Literatures at the University of Washington. She is the author of Translation’s Forgotten History: Russian Literature, Japanese Mediation, and the Formation of Modern Korean Literature (Harvard University Asia Center, 2016). She also edited the volume The Routledge Companion to Korean Literature (Routledge, 2022). Her current research focuses on seriality in cultural production both in old and new media including digital serialization and transmedial production, as well as graphic narratives and media platforms.  

As a Digital Humanities Summer Fellow, Cho will continue building an online searchable database of English translations of Korean literature, a preliminary version of which was developed during AY 2022-2023. This database will serve as a foundational resource for future research that incorporates translation data into a further insightful analysis of literary phenomena. It will also provide researchers, teachers, students of Korean literature, and general public with an effective tool for finding available translations of Korean literature.
