Julie Stoverink acts as the chief financial officer for the Simpson Center.  She works closely with the faculty Director, Simpson Center staff, and CAS administrative team to steward the Center’s diverse financial portfolio, including budget development, revenue forecasting, financial reporting, programmatic funding, and resource optimization. Julie also supports the development and execution of the Simpson Center’s business operations, fiscal compliance practices, and the pre- and post- award administration of sponsored funds. She is the primary contact for funding and compliance questions; hiring and appointment of permanent and project-based staff; and Simpson Center facilities, consisting of meeting spaces, event spaces and offices supporting scholarly residencies, conferences, and working groups.

Julie is a RACC Certified Financial Research Administrator with 15 years of experience in finance and grants administration for higher education.  Her background includes serving in administrative and leadership roles for the College of Arts and Sciences and the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University (GSU), as well as for applied research labs at the Georgia Institute of Technology.  Within these institutions, Julie actively engaged in organizations such as the GSU Staff Council, United Campus Workers (UCW), and the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA).  She was a pilot participant in the Georgia Tech Inclusive Leaders Academy and in the Radical Optimist Collective’s Seeing Whiteness for Anti-Racist Action collaboration with Georgia Policy Labs.

Julie graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (concentrations in music, theatre, and dance performance) from Southeast Missouri University in Cape Girardeau, MO. Recipient of the Larry E. Griswald Career Acting Award and Frank Loesser Memorial Musical Theatre Scholarship, Julie performed there in a wide array of works, including Carlos Menotti’s The Medium, Neil Simon’s The Good Doctor, and Josephine Garibaldi & Paul Zmolek’s 2002 Landscaping for Privacy. Post-graduation, she completed two summers as a member of the Huron Playhouse Company in Huron, OH, served as Production Intern for a season with the Charlotte Repertory Theatre in Charlotte, NC, and was briefly active in the Charlotte, NC, community theater scene. In 2017, Julie had the opportunity to perform in V’s The Vagina Monologues, produced by One Billion Rising-Atlanta, and soon thereafter returned to collaboration with Garibaldi and Zmolek at Callous Physical Theatre to work on Laptop Performance Laboratory: Modular Play – a year-long intermedia project that included performances at the Athens, GA, Classic City Fringe Festival, and culminated in a 3-week on-site residency hosted by Florida State University. In years since, Julie has performed one season with the Georgia Tech Women’s Chorus, and two seasons with the Atlanta Resistance Revival Chorus. In 2021-2022, she acted as Administrative Assistant to Disabled artist and activist Sonya Rio-Glick in her production of Waves With Nowhere to Go for the Dance/NYC & Gibney’s 2021-2022 Disability. Julie most recently joined again with Callous Physical Theatre, for Cagevent 2{020} Sometimes it works, Sometimes it doesn’t Redux, performed as part of the one-day {Re}HAPPENING event held April 2nd, 2022, at the historic Lake Eden Campus of Black Mountain College, North Carolina.
